The Tex-N Modular Railroad Club is based in Plano, Texas, a suburb north of Dallas. Our members come together to share our favorite hobby, model railroading in N scale.
Model railroading is a miniaturized railroad system with moving locomotives and passenger or freight cars on miniature track. The system may include:
- structures such as train stations, office buildings, homes, industries, bridges, and tunnels
- miniaturized people, animals, automobiles, and trucks
- a scenery base such as hills, valleys, roads, trees, grass, rivers, and lakes
The more features a model railroad includes the more realistic it becomes.
Our club builds model railroad modules that are easily transportable to events. The modules are connected together to create a large layout. This layout is available for public or private viewing, with multiple trains operating around the layout simultaneously!
Occasionally Tex-N joins forces with other clubs to create a super-sized layout. This huge model railroad creates greater enjoyment when operating trains because of the variety of modules and fostering friendship among fellow hobbyists.
Our club has developed two main tenets which have attracted positive attention:
- All modules are fully scenicked prior to public viewing
- The common rectangular shaped layout is avoided
Below is an example of one of Tex-N’s modular layouts displayed at a recent train show. It is one half the size of our largest layout. Modular model railroading provides great flexibility and variety to the hobby.
